It's the first day of school! Send us your first day of school pictures at communication@pcssd.org. #pcssdproud #serveall
'Twas the night before school starts,
And you could feel it in the air.
The creatures were stirring:
Hornets, Comets. Senators, and Bears!
The Hornets were buzzing
With excitement for the year,
As Maumelle got ready
To hoot, holler, and cheer!
The Comets are zooming,
Moving at lightning speed
For a great, new school year,
Guaranteed!
The Senators are ready
To make their mark.
Leading in the community
From the school to the park.
And the Bears are waking
From summer hibernation,
To take on the school year
Ready and unshaken.
So go to bed
And get some rest
As we begin tomorrow anew
To make this school year the best!

Open House is tonight! Come at 4:30 to have a Popsicle with the Principal and then visit classrooms from 5:00 to 6:00. We will have guests from PCSSD Transportation, Pulaski County Youth Services, and RPI Behavioral Health to help answer your questions on bus transportation, after school care, or school based mental health services. Don't forget you can pick up all your school supplies courtesy of Graves Memorial Baptist Church. Mrs. Hodge and your teachers can't wait to meet you. It's going to be the best year ever!
Thoughtful Thursday: In addition to working on education skills this summer, also spend time teaching kids to be kind. PBS Kids has a Kindness is Everywhere coloring page to fill with drawings to represent acts of kindness.

Only 5 days until the start of a new school year at Oak Grove Elementary! Teachers are getting their classrooms ready! Remember, join us on Friday, August 11th. At 4:30, have a popsicle with the Principal and then from 5:00 to 6:00 meet your teacher and see your classroom. Oak Grove students can also get a backpack full of needed school supplies thanks to the generosity of Graves Memorial Baptist Church. See you then!
Sliding in at the last minute is Morgan Boroughs, as the Discovery and Alpha teacher at Oak Grove 2 days a week. She is looking forward to "learning and growing together and having fun along the way!" We are looking forward to the discoveries and problem-solving you bring for our Hornets, Ms. Boroughs! Welcome to the team.
One way to avoid the summer slide is to continue reading. A number of organizations offer programs to encourage reading during the summer. Imagination Library has a list of books for all grade levels.

Let's welcome Jalesa Mc-Daniel Lee to Oak Grove Elementary as a kindergarten teacher! Her inspiration quote is, "the expert in anything was once a beginner" . She looks forward to pouring into her students and building positive relationships among them. We can't wait to love on them and watch them grow, too, Ms. Lee!
