Ms. Samantha Phillips is joining Oak Grove as a first grade teacher. She says, "Shoot for the moon and you’ll land among the stars." It sounds like she has high expectations for her students!
Ms. Thelma McClure is returning to Oak Grove, but moving to 2nd grade. Ms. McClure is inspired by this quote from Colin Powell: “There are no secrets to secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.” She is ready to make a difference with her second graders!
July is Make a Difference to a Child Month. PCSSD Executive Director of Communications Jessica Duff, says: "Consistency is everything for kids: presence, patience, guidance. Continue to show up for kids every day and that makes the difference!"

Oak Grove Elementary will host its open house on Friday, August 11 from 4:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. This is your chance to visit the school, meet teachers and ask any questions before the first day of school (which is August 14). See you soon!
Thoughtful Thursday: In addition to working on education skills this summer, also spend time teaching kids to be kind. PBS Kids recommends creating a kindness tree as a visual reminder of the ways your child is kind.

Avoid the Summer Slide this year with this tip from MILLS UNIVERSITY STUDIES HIGH principal, Teresa Moka: "Read anything on a topic that interests you and practice basic math skills to strengthen and maintain your fluency."

One way to avoid the summer slide is to continue reading. A number of organizations offer programs to encourage reading during the summer. Audible is offering a number of free audio books for for kids of all ages.
