4th grade science students at BAKER ELEMENTARY used the scientific method to conduct an experiment about how quickly dye would disperse through different temperature waters. The students learned that the dye moves more quickly through hot water. #pcssdproud #equityandexcellence

January is School Board Appreciation Month and we asked our board members to share a little about themselves.
Stephen Delaney likes reading newspapers on microfilm at the library. He enjoys the old political cartoons and Cynthia Howell/George Bentley stories covering past Arkansas K-12 education issues. Jon Kennedy is his favorite cartoonist but George Fisher is a close second.
One thing he's learned during the pandemic is just how crucial public education is for EVERYONE including those without school-age children. We all need healthy, safe, and functional public schools!
Thank you, Stephen, for your dedication to PCSSD!

4th grade students in Mrs. Jones' science class are using the scientific method to test their hypothesis.
"We were trying to figure out if the temperature of water affects the rate of dye dispersing in the water? I predicted that the temperature will change how the dye disperses in water because when you put some dye it might go faster in hot water and slower in cold water. The data showed the cold water took 15:05 minutes for the dye to disperse, the hot water took 22 seconds for the dye to disperse, and the room temperature water took 7:06 to disperse the dye. I concluded that the cold water had less energy because there was less heat. The room temperature water was faster than the cold water and slower than the hot water. The hot water mixed faster than both because heat is energy and energy makes things move faster." Special Thanks to 4th grader, Sally C. for providing experiment details.
